Does SafeTO know my exact location?
No, when using SafeTO, the app will know your location within a 1 kilometer (0.6 mile) radius.
Is SafeTO able to request my location at all times?
No, SafeTO can only access your location while the app is runnig. If you have notifications turned off, your location is only accessed once each time the app comes in focus. If notications are turned on, an icon will be displayed in your statusbar and your location will be checked periodically whether the app is in focus or not. You can turn off notifications at any time.
Does SafeTO store my location or personal information anywhere?
No, SafeTO does not store any information about you or location on your or device nor on our servers. Please see our Privacy Policy.
Where does this data come from?
This data comes from Toronto Police reports, starting in 2014. The data in the app is updated when there are new published reports from Toronto Police. You can see the date and time of the last update within the app.
I am not getting notifications
Ensure you have notifications enabled from the Settings tab in the app. You can request notications when entering a High Crime area from an average or low area (you will not be notified when moving from one high crime area to another high crime area). You can also request a notification when you leave a High Crime area and enter an average or low crime area.
I am getting the following error: "Permission to access location was denied"
You must grant location access to SafeTO in order to use the app. If you have denied SafeTO access to your location, you will need to grant it from your phone Settings (Settings -> Apps -> SafeTO -> Permissions -> Location).
Is this available for iOS devices?
Not at this time.
